Jofra Archer bowls a banana inswinger during Second Eleven Championship

In 2021, Jofra Archer’s cricket career has been marred with injuries as his elbow injury resurfaced while he also suffered a cut on his hand. The multiple injuries resulted in the speedster giving a miss to the now-postponed 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) along with missing a part of the England tour of India earlier in the year.

Archer last featured in an international fixture during the five-match T20I series against India at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad but had to give the three-match One Day series against the same opponents a miss. However, after surgeries and proper treatment the 26-year-old has returned to competitive cricket.

Jofra featured in a match against Surrey 2nd XI for Sussex 2nd XI in the ongoing Second Eleven Championship. Making his comeback, the right-hander was at his fluent best with the ball as in the first innings he returned with two wickets. Picking his first wicket in the match, Archer managed to impress the onlookers as he bowled a banana inswinger to rattle the middle-order batsman NMJ Reifer and send him back to the pavilion.

The video of the spectacular delivery bowled by Jofra was shared on the official Twitter handle of Sussex as they wrote, “Not a bad delivery! Two wickets for Jofra Archer against Surrey’s second XI yesterday, including this one.”

The other wicket that Jofra Archer took during the innings was of tail-ender James Taylor. Taylor moved back to the pavilion after handing a catch to substitute fielder Henderson.

Jofra Archer expected to feature in IPL 2021

A hand injury saw Jofra Archer getting ruled out of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) hosted in India. However, the England speedster can be seen representing his franchise Rajasthan Royals in the tournament as IPL 2021 was postponed after just 29 matches owing to the rise in the number of coronavirus cases. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now planning to host the league in September just before the ICC T20 World Cup. The same means that Archer can take part in the league if he remains free of any injuries.
