Ben Stokes left many in his awe with his mindboggling knock of 135* in the second innings of the third Ashes Test at Headingley. The left-hander snatched victory for England from the jaws of defeat in a record chase as the hosts levelled the series in a stunning way to keep the hopes of retaining the Ashes alive. The shot through the covers sealed the game for England and Stokes roared in delight.

England were down and out in this game after being bowled out for just 67 runs in the first innings. They had given away a 112-run lead in the first innings and the fans and the former cricketers were resigned to the fact that Australia had retained the Ashes. But in the third session of the second day, Ben Stokes came up with a brilliant effort sending down 13.2 overs in one spell and on any other day, could’ve easily run through the opposition batting line-up.

He continued to bowl the next day as well making it a 25-over spell in one go. He duly returned with the figures of 3/56 in 24.2 overs as Australia were bowled out for 246 runs. Having thrown his wicket away in the first innings, the all-rounder wanted to make amends for it and he did enough with the ball for everyone to forgive him.

This guy is a freak

However, Ben Stokes wasn’t done yet. He was still hurting the first-innings dismissal it seems. He literally scored only a solitary run off his first 30-odd deliveries to play out the third day safely and then came back the next day to script history. Though he was lucky at times with Australia dropping him once and Joel Wilson not giving out when he was out, Stokes has to be credited for his match-winning effort.

Like everyone, Michael Vaughan was also thrilled to watch his knock live and termed it the best ever Test innings. Moreover, he also asked the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to give Stokes his Knighthood right away. First, the World Cup and now kept his team alive in the Ashes, Ben Stokes is having a dream 2019.
