Ever since Navjot Sidhu has visited Pakistan to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Prime Minister Imran Khan, he has been at the receiving end back in India. More than anything, the politicians are all over him and to add to his agony, Sidhu hugging Pakistan Army’s chief has left many fuming. The BJP has attacked him with not so good words with even the Defence Minister commenting that his gesture must’ve demoralised the soldiers at the border.

Meanwhile, the Government has signed the Rafael Jet Fighter deal recently and the opposition parties are not at all happy with it. Even the cricketer-turned-politician’s Congress Party has also attacked BJP over the same and Sidhu also miss out on an opportunity in his response to the Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s comments over him travelling to Pakistan.

“You start raking up this issue again. Sidhu has become such an important person that the defence minister makes a statement…It was just a ‘jhappi’ (hug)…It is not a conspiracy, ‘jhappi’ is not Rafale deal, ‘jhappi’ is not firing bullets at Gursikhs,” he was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.

Is it a conspiracy?

Navjot Sidhu was clearly not happy with all the brouhaha over his Pakistan visit as he wanted peace and not war between the two countries. He pointed out that only a one-second hug has blown amazingly out of the proportion all these days unnecessarily and nobody is speaking about the sentiments of the Sikhs now.

“You are not talking about sentiments of Sikhs and you have blown the one-second emotional hug out of proportion. Is it a conspiracy?” Sidhu further added.

Moreover, Sidhu also asked if the players shouldn’t shake hands when there is a cricket match between the arch-rivals. “Do not shake hands when there is going to be a cricket match between India and Pakistan. Will you not shake hands? If Pakistan PM, who is a good man and had played several matches here, shakes hands with Indian team or hugs player like Virat (Kohli), will he show his back to him,” the 54-year-old concluded.
