Shivam Dube scored a blistering 49 runs from 30 deliveries and his scintillating knock in the middle-order propelled the Chennai Super Kings to a mammoth total of 210/7 from their 20 overs against Lucknow Super Giants at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on March 31. Nonetheless, he could not do any justice with the ball, and not only did he go wicketless in the second innings but also conceded 25 runs in the penultimate over which took the match away from CSK.

After Dube’s bowling performance cost CSK the match in a high-scoring encounter, former Australian batter Matthew Hayden has given his opinion on his former IPL team’s performance. He stated that the Chennai bowlers struggled on the dewy wicket as West Indies batter Evin Lewis kept on taking them to the cleaners at regular intervals.

Evin Lewis was just on fire: Matthew Hayden

“Moeen Ali bowled just one over. He got smashed for 14 but guess what. That’s what it’s like playing on these really dewy wickets. It’s really wet; imagine trying to bowl with that ball. It’s not easy. And Shivam Dube as well… medium pacer, I mean that is just like serving cake to a little kindergarten kid. And Evin Lewis was just on fire,”  said Hayden while speaking on Star Sports.

At the same time, the veteran power-hitter also talked about CSK’s sloppy fielding and dropped catches, especially that of Quinton de Kock who got a huge reprieve off a delivery from Dwayne Bravo and went on to score a match-winning 61.

“CSK were also a little untidy on the field, remember that. Remember they dropped a few catches. Quinton de Kock got dropped off Bravo, that would have been the highest wicket-taking delivery. That didn’t happen. Also, Jadeja bowled just two overs, potentially he could have just managed Bravo to get him into that 17th, 19th over by bowling some additional overs,” he said.

Shivam Dube was expensive in the game against KKR as well. He conceded 11 runs from the only over that he bowled and was taken off the attack immediately. The defending champions would be desperately searching for their first points this season when they face Punjab Kings in Mumbai on April 3.
