In the only T20I between Australia and South Africa at Carrara Oval in Queensland, a bizarre incident took place in the penultimate over of the Australian innings. There was Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada in the mix of things as he bowled a shocker of a delivery at Glenn Maxwell and everyone was surprised.

A game which was reduced to 10-overs a said after rain intervention right at the start, was convincingly won by the visitors. South Africa having elected to bat first had a great start and they managed to put up 108 runs on the board in their quota of overs. While in reply, the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals and fell short by 21 runs to hand Proteas the T20I series win as well.

Rabada bowls one of the worst deliveries

Chasing a tough target of 109 in their ten overs, Australia had a lot of hopes on Maxwell who got a start after some superb bowling by the Proteas. However, even Maxwell found it difficult to get going and failed to take his side over the line. His 23-ball 38 went in vain much due to the lack of any support from the other end.

In the ninth over of the innings, the all-rounder was at the receiving end of one of the most bizarre deliveries. The third ball of Rabada’s over slipped out of his hand and flew directly to the fielder at point. The on-field umpires took their time to discuss and eventually declare it a dead ball, a decision which took commentators by surprise.

Here’s the video of the delivery:

After the win in Queensland, South Africa concluded a successful tour of Australia. They had won the three-match ODI series 2-1 and thus return home with two series trophies.

Australia will now host India for a full tour that starts with the three-match T20I series. The first match is slated to be played on November 21 at the Gabba in Brisbane.
