Dale Steyn, the South African paceman who is just one wicket away from becoming South Africa’s highest wicket-taker in Tests, feels Kagiso Rabada is a better bowler than him based on current form and could get better leading to the World Cup next year if he learned more tricks from the former.

The 35-five-year-old has been hit by injuries of late and struggled to put together the kind of performances he is known for on the international stage. Steyn was ruled out of the home series against India earlier this year and though he made a comeback into the national side for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka, he could not get more than two wickets. 23-year-old Rabada, on the other hand, became the youngest to complete 150 Test wickets in the same series.

“He’s way better than me. I have obviously got my records and everything but he’s way better than I am right now. What he lacks is what I have, and that’s what I can share going forward. I will just carry on doing what I do and he can feed off that, he can learn off that and he can just become so much better,” Steyn, who is currently tied with former pacer Shaun Pollock with 421 Test wickets at the moment, said, according to an India Today report.

Will resume white-ball cricket

“Our biggest problem in white ball cricket now is our bowling. I don’t think it’s a massive issue but I think in terms of experience it’s our biggest problem. If you look at our top six batters, those guys have all played 800-plus games. But if you look at our bowling, our bottom four, they have probably played 150 games. That’s a massive difference. There’s a heavy weight that weighs up there,” he added.

Steyn further mentioned he has put the injury woes behind him and is looking forward to playing the ODI format as well. However, he is not currently a part of the South African squad that is playing a five-game series in Sri Lanka. In fact, his last ODI appearance came in October 2016 against Australia at Cape Town. The bowler added that he spoke to South African coach Ottis Gibson and will play white-ball cricket in England and South Africa to prepare himself to mentor the younger fast bowlers.
