Pakistan wicket-keeper discard Kamran Akmal might soon find himself playing for the national team. Akmal last featured in Pakistan colors back in 2014. Since then, he has been an out of favor wicketkeeper. His poor run back then combined with Sarfraz Ahmed’s steady rise meant his ouster from the national setup.
Kamran Akmal is no new name in the cricket circle of Pakistan. He has represented Pakistan in 53 Tests, 154 ODIs to go with 54 T20I appearances. His recent good run in the domestic circuit of Pakistan has set the stage for him to make a comeback.
As per a report in DNA India, the sources have revealed that Kamran Akmal recently met chief selector Inzamam Ul Haq in Karachi on the weekend. Reportedly, Kamran was asked he was match fit. This is a clear indication that the wicket-keeper might soon find himself back in the ODI team as a specialist batsman. “Kamran, who last played in April, 2014 for Pakistan, is set to earn a recall for the one-day series in Australia in January,” a source quoted.
Earlier, Kamran had threatened to go legal way seeking justice on his ouster from the national team. There were news about him threatening to make a plea to Nawaz Sharif in order to make a comeback to the national team. However, at the meeting with Inzamam Ul Haq, Kamran Akmal clarified that he did not mean things the way it came in the media. He was misquoted and misunderstood by the media, he stressed. “He has clarified his position with the chief selector and assured him he had not said those things and was misquoted,” the source added.
Kamran mentioned that he does not mind playing as a specialist batsman if needed. He is open to bat at any position when the opportunity beckons. “I told them I am ready to be given a chance as a specialist batsman as my form is very good and I am very confident of doing well if given a chance to make a comeback to international cricket,” Kamran quoted.
Kamran has hit 5 centuries in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam trophy. When asked about his form, a very confident Kamran quoted that he is keen to make it 6 in the finals. “I am keen to make it six if possible when the final resumes on Tuesday,” said Akmal.
Another batsman who has shown some form in the same finals is discarded former skipper Salman Butt. Butt scored 125 in the ongoing final match.
