Kane Williamson was appointed the skipper of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the eleventh hour this year after David Warner was banned to play in the IPL. It was going to be extremely tough for him as many had criticised the Kiwi captain for his slow batting in the shortest format. As it turned out, he was the highest run-getter of the tournament and took his team to the finals with his inspired leadership. However, it has emerged now that he had predicted the national call-up for his teammate last year itself.

The performances in the IPL are certainly not overlooked by the selectors and it has paved the way for the youngsters to get into the national side at least in the T20Is. Jasprit Bumrah is one of the many players who came through the tournament and is one of the important bowlers of the side across all the formats.

Whose name did Kane predict?

Kane Williamson had predicted that Siddarth Kaul will get selected in the Indian team last year itself when the latter first played for the franchise. The fast bowler known to be the death overs specialist was one of the emerging players last years and his performances earned him the place in the ODI side for the series against Sri Lanka. But he warmed the bench and was dropped later only to return to the both ODI and T20I squads for the UK tour on the back of some consistent showings this year in the IPL.

While speaking to CricXtasy, Kaul himself revealed that Kane had predicted his national call-up last year while also praising him for leading the side really well. He also mentioned that the Kiwi cricketer was always positive about him and used to trust him at the crucial stages of the game.

“He has always been extremely positive about me. He told me last season which was my first with him and the Sunrisers Hyderabad that I can play for India. You can perform well in any circuit. He gave me enough confidence and now when he was the captain, he gave me my chance. When your captain supports you, you feel at ease. As per the situation demanded, he asked me to bowl the important overs,” he said.
