The demonetisation drive started in India almost a month ago with the Prime Minister declaring the central government’s decision to take off 1000 and 500 rupee notes as legal tender. There are people supporting it and terming it a great move for the country and its economy while there are others criticizing it for the problems people are facing because of it.

The decision though seems to have gone down quite well with the cricket fraternity and joining the list of supporters of the move is former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev. The World Cup champion skipper called it a bold move which will definitely reap fruits in the longer run. Addressing the annual function at the Sat Paul Mittal School Kapil said, “Although it has brought some initial problems, it will bear fruits in the long run,”

Earlier batting legend Sunil Gavaskar had also warmly welcomed the Prime Minister’s decision saying, “I am not an economist who will know what will be the effect but yes if most of the people are happy with this move then I am also happy,” Gavaskar said.

He also added that being from the generation where they relied on singles and doubles for most of their runs he isn’t really affected by demonetisation. “Only singles and twos..we are not of 20-20’s..so this has not affected players like me, the way this demonetisation has happened to other players.”

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli also backed it and said, “For me, it’s the greatest move I’ve seen in the history of Indian politics by far, hands down. I’ve been so impressed by it. It’s unbelievable,”

“I was taking out my old money while paying my hotel bill in Rajkot. I forgot that it’s not of any use anymore. I could have actually signed on it and given it to people. It’s that useless now,” Kohli on a lighter note said.
