KL Rahul might have found it tough in the period between the two Indian Premier Leagues (IPL) 2018 and 2019 – but his performance in the T20 tournament this year has impressed his mate in Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Karnataka, Karun Nair. The latter, who has played just one game in this IPL so far, felt Rahul is back among the scores after going through a “tough couple of months” since the television controversy that saw him being handed a brief suspension along with India all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Rahul and Pandya had appeared on popular talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’ with filmmaker Karan Johar and they were accused of making controversial remarks on air, leading to an outrage. The BCCI was compelled to act following the reaction and the two players were called back from Australia where they were set to play in an ODI series. Pandya later returned to the Indian side to play in New Zealand but Rahul had to wait for the ODI series at home versus Australia.

“It’s good he (Rahul) is scoring a lot of runs again. We are really happy for him. Because he is scoring runs, the team is benefitting. I am really happy for him,” Nair, India’s only triple centurion in Tests after Virender Sehwag, was quoted as saying by India Today.

“He has gone through a tough couple of months but to come back and start scoring again is not easy. It’s important that people around him support him. He is in a really good space right now. Hopefully, he will continue doing well for us.”

Rahul having great run in IPL 12

Rahul is having a terrific run in IPL 12 just like he had last year. In nine matches so far, the Karnataka batsman has amassed 387 runs at an average of 64 plus with one hundred and four fifties. Last year, he ended up with 659 runs from 14 matches.

Nair played the game against Mumbai Indians last week in which Rahul hit his unbeaten century, scored only five runs in six balls.
