Karun Nair lashes out at Afghanistan skipper Asghar Stanikzai for comments on spinners

The Afghanistan spinners, especially Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, have tasted a significant amount of success. They are mere teenagers and even at tender ages of 19 and 17 respectively, the duo has rattled the best in the business at the highest level. Rashid is currently the number one ranked T20I bowler and his jaw-dropping numbers are undoubtedly worth envying. Mujeeb was the first International bowler of this century when he achieved the feat versus Ireland last year. He also played in the IPL alongside Rashid and Mohammad Nabi, his teammates in the national team. The team will now lock horns with India in their maiden Test match from June 14 in Bangalore and a good show on their part will only be a icing on the cake of their glorious run. “A pretty big statement”- Nair Meanwhile, Asghar Stanikzai, the Afghan skipper, earlier mentioned that his spinners were superior to that of the Indian spinners. The comments definitely didn’t go down well with Karun Nair, who made a comeback to the Test squad, and he expressed his dissatisfaction over the words. “That’s a pretty big statement to make, considering they haven’t played Test cricket. All of our spinners have proven themselves in Test cricket, so there isn’t much to add to that,” Nair was quoted as saying by mid-day. When asked about the threat Rashid Khan is speculated to pose, Nair said “Most of us have played him in the T20 but this is a different ball game. I don’t think he has played too many red-ball games. But the key is to be watchful and take it as it comes.” Karun commenced his career with an awe-inspiring triple-century versus England. However, after playing a few Tests thereafter, he went out of contention. The batsman is keen to make the chance count. “I’m really excited to be given another opportunity, it has been a while now. I have worked very hard over the last one-and-a-half years. I know that I have become better and fitter,” Nair mentioned.
