Kedar Jadhav was slowly cementing his place in India’s ODI team until a hamstring injury in the Indian Premier League earlier this year sidelined him from the national squad. Well, his batting credentials are well known, his off-break bowling is also as accurate. His bowling action, though is bizarre and has often raised curiosity among the cricketing fraternity.

Side-arm bowling as it can be called, Kedar finally opened up about it. “I certainly haven’t been bowling it all along. But I like creativity so when I was bowling, I realised off-spinners are usual. Anyone who does not know to bowl will bowl off-spin. That’s when I tried a few new things like the side arm ball and it worked. I tried it in the match and it got me wickets so stuck with it,” he told India Today in an interview.

Recovering from a hamstring injury

Jadhav, a late bloomer, played quite a few useful knocks for India in 2017. He was also a part of India’s squad for the Champions Trophy. He has mostly been used as a part-time option by skipper Virat Kohli and his indifferent action has been the talk of many. The Maharashtra batsman missed the entire season of this year’s Indian Premier League due to a hamstring injury but revealed that he will be fit to play in the next two weeks.

“Rehab (rehabilitation) is good. Another maximum two-three weeks and I will be fit and start playing. I am allowed to bat now also, but because of rain, I am not able to. In two weeks I will start playing,” he added.

The 33-year-old has represented India in 40 ODIs and 9 T20Is in which he has racked up 798 and 122 runs respectively. He came into the limelight with a 29-ball 50 for Delhi Daredevils on his IPL debut. India are struggling to form a balanced middle-order, especially in the ODI format.

The World Cup in England and Wales is approximately ten months away and it now remains to be seen if Jadhav can prove his mettle before the quadrennial tournament and take up a seat in the Men in Blue’s World Cup squad.
