The Proteas team management has decided to recall their premier fast bowler Morne Morkel who had a big injury lay-off which prevented him from taking part in any international cricket since June 2016. The tall fast bowler played his last competitive match against West Indies where he conceded 68 runs in 9 overs.

The fast bowler who forged a sensational bowling partnership with Dale Steyn was out of action due to a bulged disc. It was painful on his part to witness some of the greatest performance being dished out by his team but he had to keep faith in him and his abilities and finally he is back for the Champions Trophy to be held in England in June.

Apart from Morkel, left-arm orthodox spinner Keshav Maharaj who performed pretty well in limited opportunities he got so far on the Test circuit also received his maiden call-up in the coloured clothing. However, two premier fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander will miss the mini world cup as they are still recuperating from their respective injuries.

AB de Villiers has been named as the captain of the side despite some injury speculations the other day when RCB played against Gujarat Lions. He missed the opening two encounters but roared back strongly in his first outing by smashing 89 of a mere 46 deliveries. He looked in total command and deposited the Kings XI bowlers all around the park.

South Africa squad: Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers (c), JP Duminy, David Miller, Chris Morris, Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir, Keshav Maharaj, Dwaine Pretorius, Farhaan Behardien, Morne Morkel
