Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who is all set to make his IPL debut as a commentator, said that he will try to bring in fresh ideas while on the job.

Pietersen will share the commentary box with Aussies Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Brett Lee and Matthew Hayden during the tournament.

“I shared the commentary box with Michael Clarke for Channel 9 during South Africa vs Australia series in November. We had a wonderful time. Pup and I had just come out of international cricket,” Pietersen told PTI.

Pietersen, who is still playing franchise cricket, said he would like to incorporate the modern day thought process which is required in T20 cricket during his analysis.

“I am still playing in terms of franchise cricket and we will be able to bring the modern day thought pattern in a fairly fresh way,” Pietersen shared.

The former England captain had a stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Daredevils in previous IPL seasons. Last year, Pietersen was part of the Rising Pune Supergiant squad, but has parted ways with the team. Pietersen also played in Australia’s Big Bash League and was part of the PSL as well.

“I played in Australia, played in Dubai and I am coming to India for a week and then I have family commitments. I have golf to play, holidays to go. Then I will come back to India. My life doesn’t wait for worry of games of cricket,” the Englishman said.

“I would still be in a wonderful position that I am able to share my knowledge of the game on TV. I will not be jealous of not being able to play. It will be a lot cooler in the commentary box,” Pietersen added jokingly.

Kevin Pietersen, who will also feature as a panellist on ‘Extraaa Innings T20’ for the upcoming IPL season, is looking forward to the pre-match show.

“It’s something that you watch when you are in India. As a foreign player, I am not good with my Hindi. So I have to catch up as a lot of Hindi is spoken. It is a show full of entertainment and action-packed. Everyone is very informed about the game. Extraaa innings really engages everybody and bring razzmatazz, action, music along with performances on the field,” Pietersen said.

The extravagant T20 league begins tomorrow with the Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening game.
