Kevin Pietersen has grabbed the attention of viewers across India in his debut in the IPL commentary box. His insightful analysis and his friendly banter with on-field players have already made him a favoured commentator in the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League.

Pietersen also had a befitting reply to former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri as they were both sitting in the commentary box along with Isa Guha. A well-known voice in Indian cricket, Shastri has most often had the last laugh. Nevertheless, this time around, it was Kevin’s turn to trump Mr. Tracer-Bullet.

During an IPL game, Pietersen happened to describe a game he was part of in the Pakistan Super League. The former England captain, who was part of the Quetta Gladiators set up in the recently concluded tournament, said, “I had a great time in Sharjah. The match was hard and we won. (on the game between Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators)”

Ravi Shastri, however, took this cue to pop in a question about Australia’s Big Bash League to KP. Pietersen was also a member of the Melbourne Stars squad and played down under last year for the mega-event. Shastri asked, “Tell us something about BBL, you played there as well.”

However, Kevin Pietersen casually brushed aside Shastri’s query and replied casually, “Nope man! I recently played in PSL, I am gonna talk about that.” Ravi Shastri had only a smile on offer as KP had his way.

Pietersen, however, was also on the receiving end of MS Dhoni’s wit as the two big-shots conversed with Manoj Tiwary being the mediator. Tiwary was miked up for the Rising Pune Supergiant and Pietersen urged him to remind MSD that Kevin is a better golfer than Dhoni. Mahi, however, trolled KP on live television saying, “He’s still my first test wicket.” The commentary box, of course, burst out in laughter.

Look out for Pietersen in the commentary box for the remainder of the IPL as the Englishman is sure to pull some more legs occasionally.
