Kevin Pietersen has launched the KP24 Foundation’s first Sprite 24/7 Project, which will see seven teams of underprivileged teenagers take part in a 10-day cricketing camp in Dubai. The 16-18 year-olds will be from some of the most impoverished areas in the world and enjoy training sessions with professional players and coaches, including KP, before representing their countries in a T20 tournament. He set-up the foundation with the aim of helping the underprivileged kids from impoverished areas around the world play cricket and is finally going to live his dream.
As the official charity of the great batsman, the KP24 Foundation has a clear philosophy to help those less fortunate, become more fortunate. The foundation’s mission is to support underprivileged children around the globe have better chances in sport, education, employment and in life. Their projects and the ones it supports helps give the very best opportunities to those most in need. It aims to work with a range of young people from less fortunate communities providing them with access to highly valuable programmes, employment opportunities enabling them to improve their personal skills, education and career development.
It is a noble cause and KP must be applauded for his wonderful efforts. He recently said, “It’s really important to me that we help less fortunate young people to be the best they can be in both cricket and in life. I’ve personally seen many youngsters from some extremely difficult communities around the world with genuine talent and we want to help unearth and nurture that talent to give them real chances to better themselves. Poverty, homelessness and geography should never be allowed to stifle our children and put out the flames. With the KP24 Foundation, we want to remove all those barriers, ignite their passion and let them flourish.”
One can only hope that such wonderful endeavours are pursued by even more cricket stars in future. Pietersen has started something special and very important and will be hoping to have as much success as he had while playing for England.
