Cricket West Indies (CWI) has delayed the announcement of the squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Pakistan. The team from Carribean nation is set to become the second team after Sri Lanka to travel Pakistan in order to help them revive international cricket in the country. The series is set to commence on April 1 and the teams will play three back-back matches. However, the delay in squad announcement has put the series in jeopardy suddenly with only three days to go now.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to bring the cricketing action back in the country and recently organised 3 matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) successfully. Moreover, the final was held at the National Stadium in Karachi which hosted the match after a long time. Karachi will also host the T20I series between Pakistan and Windies now as slowly but steadily international cricket is returning to the country.
Key player has pulled out of the series
Windies skipper in Tests and ODIs, Jason Holder, has pulled out of the three-match T20I series in Pakistan. Also, according to the reports Geo.tv, as many as five players are expected to debut for the Windies side on this tour as the key players have opted out of the series. The visitors are expected in Pakistan by Saturday evening only ahead of the game. The squad should be announced before that as the CWI is looking for the players who are willing to travel to the country.
Andre Fletcher, Chadwick Walton and Samuel Badree who recently were in the country for their respective PSL sides will be in the squad certainly. This is not the first time, that the key players have pulled out of the series being held in Pakistan as even Sri Lanka had to face the similar issue when the players like Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga had opted out citing security reasons for the one-off T20I last year.
