With his biopic recently released, Indian skipper MS Dhoni has looked to inspire people through his movie. However, while his movie has reached record and box office highs, it was the message that Dhoni has tried to resonate right through the country in recent times.

The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio was a perfect example of the fact that the Indian athletes have either been unlucky or underprepared. Only Sakshi Malik and PV Sindhu have provided the purrs of joys the Indians have been longing for in recent times stating that sports have to be a massive development in this country. However, the largest contingent of athletes that left for Rio recently came back with just two medals.

MS Dhoni, a product of the era that produced some of India’s greatest cricketers was quick to point out the fact that most Indian children these days are not exposed to outdoor sports. Dhoni was also quick to add that a lot of kids were hooked onto electric gadgets, something that had to be eradicated at the earliest if the Indians had any hopes of winning gold medals in the future.

“We often say we don’t win medals at Olympics. But we don’t realize how many of our youth is playing an outdoor sport. A lot of the kids are hooked to electronic gadgets.

“We have to throw the kids out of the house to play the sport. It will not only help them stay active but also help them in their academics,” Dhoni said at an event on Tuesday.

A lot of opinions have been floated by many former athletes and journalists in recent times. While the likes of Shobha De have been in and around the limelight, many have stated, in a well-documented unison that the sporting culture in India more than certainly needs improvement.
