After a well-fought limited-overs series between India and England, both nations are all set to shed their colors to play the longest format of the game. For the five-match Test series, the selection board for Indian Cricket Team has already announced the squad for first three games. The 18-member squad had some interesting names, with few turning tactical and some were forced changes.

With regular wicket-keeper batsman Saha out of contention due to a severe injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Dinesh Karthik as his replacement with Rishab Pant as a backup wicket-keeper. Having said that, Dinesh Karthik has been in the mix of things for long as he toured England in Rahul Dravid led Indian Team but hasn’t been a part of the regular set up, it will altogether be a new challenge for the experienced campaigner.

The former prolific wicket-keeper batsman Kiran More has shared some important tips with both Dinesh Karthik and Rishab Pant before the start of the long tour. He believes that the key to being successful in English conditions is not to move much and have soft hands. He also mentioned that the duo should try and collect the ball close to their body and watch the ball till the last second.

Kiran More Advice to Karthik and Pant

Kiran More said, “The key is not to move too much in those conditions. Sudden, jerky movements are an absolute no-no. Soft hands are very important. With stiff hands, you will struggle. You have to wait for the ball to come to you, and try and take it close to the body. You have to be in the right position and get behind the line. You cannot collect it on the side.”

“In England, the ball can dip sharply after it passes the stumps and there is also late movement when it is about two-three feet away from you. It is like a snake slithering this way and that.  A keeper’s first tour to England is always difficult. Even (MS) Dhoni had problems in 2007, I had a few as well in 1986. Luckily I had played league cricket in England before my Test debut. So I was aware of the challenges to an extent,” added More.
