In their pursuit of clinching a consolidated win against the hosts, India locked horns with New Zealand in the final ODI of the three-match series. After the drubbing 2-0 defeat in the ODI series, Virat Kohli and his troops will be aiming to finish the series on a positive note as the likelihood of a whitewash looms over them.

After being put to bat first, the Men in Blue suffered an early blow as Mayank Agarwal‘s woeful form continued as the opener departed for 1. He was followed by Virat Kohli, who also was sent back to the pavilion by Hamish Benett. However, youngster Prithvi Shaw steadied the ship by scoring 42-ball 40 before getting dismissed off an unfortunate run out.

Post Shaw’s departure, it was the duo of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul who bolstered India’s middle-order and kept the scoreboard ticking. The Iyer-Rahul duo steered India to a total of 100/3 in the first 20 overs. Both the right-handers smashed half-centuries to retrieve Team India from the top-order blows. However, one incident that hogged the attention in the 20th over was the altercation between KL Rahul and James Neesham.

The Karnataka batsman called for a quick single after driving the ball to mid-on off Neesham’s over. But it seemed like Neesham was in the way of Rahul while he was racing towards the non-striker’s end. Rahul walked towards Neesham after completing the run to whine about the New Zealand all-rounder blocking his way. It seemed that the two players were about to get into an argument but Rahul shrugged it off with a smile at the end.

KL Rahul and James Neesham will be a part of Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020

James Neesham was acquired by the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL Auction 2020 for a meagre sum of INR 50 lakhs. After no other team bid for the Kiwi all-rounder, Kings XI Punjab wasted no time in acquiring his services. The Kiwi all-rounder will play under the leadership of Rahul in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

Meanwhile, Rahul has been in scintillating form for India after donning the wicketkeeping gloves. The 27-year-old delivered consistent performances with his willow in the T20I series as well as the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand.
