BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur came out with the news that KL Rahul has been declared unfit after an examination by the medical team. Rahul is understood to be afflicted with Dengue fever. Despite the illness Rahul flew to Kolkatta to report for the fitness test. That tells us about how much he wanted to play in the test match. After the promising ton against Australia in the recent test series down under a lot was expected from the Karnataka batsman.

He was set to take on the Bangladeshi bowlers after he had amassed 838 runs in 5 matches at an average of 93 including a triple ton. He did not have a really fluent IPL as he struggled to get going on most occasions while batting for Sunrisers in the league.

Rahul would have well looked at this series to cement his spot in the Indian test team, which is in the changeover phase and will now be playing under the young and aggressive head of Virat Kohli. But unfortunately the illness has now hampered his future endeavours. Rahul’s exclusion from the side gives Shikhar Dhawan an opportunity to make a comeback into the side after he was dropped from the Sydney test.
