An unfortunate knee injury to his right knee has seen 26-year old Indian pacer Mohammad Shami ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against England. This comes as a rather terrible thing for the Indian pacer as he has consequently missed the last few ODI series against oppositions such as New Zealand, and now even England.

Reports from various credible sources go on to suggest that Shami had been injured in the third Test match against England at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. A few sources also go on to state that Shami had hurt himself on his right knee on the third day’s play. The subsequent matches at the Wankhede Stadium and Chepauk saw Shami’s place taken over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma respectively.

At the moment, the Indians selectors are pouring over the selection of Shami’s replacement. Reports suggest that his place in the ODI side would be taken over by Ishant Sharma. While the 28-year old Indian pacer has not played ODI cricket in some time, the selectors are also pondering over the recalling of 37-year old Ashish Nehra back into the grand scheme of things.

Nehra had recently reported to the Times of India that he wanted to continue playing T20 cricket in the year or so to come in spite of his age as well as his spate of injuries that have continued to haunt him in the past. Moreover, the fact of the matter also remains that he is still India’s best bowler in the limited-overs’ format until of course, he decides to call it a day anytime soon.

The Indian selectors are left with a bevy of injuries to deal with in recent times including ones to Mumbai duo Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma. While they would like to experiment with some players from the domestic circuit, the selectors would much rather go in with triple-centurion Karun Nair or perhaps even Shikhar Dhawan to replace the injured duo.
