Kolkata Knight Riders rejoice their victory in emphatic style after win last night

Kolkata Knight Riders camp celebrated their win over defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad last night in grand style at their team hotel. The celebration party came in the aftermath of their hard fought victory by 7 wickets in the all important eliminator at Bangalore yesterday.

Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad were put into bat by Gautam Gambhir after he won the toss and elected to field first. As it turned out, it was yet again a difficult pitch presented to SRH by the KSCA as they found it difficult to middle for a majority of the game.

David Warner, Kane Williamson, Naman Ojha and Vijay Shankar helped the Hyderabad-based team to crawl towards 128 in their 20 overs by losing as many as seven wickets in their innings before persisting rains took the centre stage in the event.

Kolkata Knight Riders would have had their hearts in their mouth the entire time it was raining as there were high chances of them being knocked out of the tournament had the match been called off due to rains.

However, the tension in the KKR camp would have been reduced as did the rain, which meant that the match was a 6-over affair by Duckworth-Lewis method. KKR had to chase down 48 runs in six overs in order to progress into the second qualifier.

Kolkata Knight Riders made a meal out of the required run-rate as they lost Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn and Yusuf Pathan with 12 on the board in seven balls. Gautam Gambhir brought all his experience into play with a match-winning knock of 32 of 19 balls by withering all kinds of storms and take his side to victory.

Gambhir’s jubilation was evident both on and off the field with his fist pumps and orchestration of the party in the team hotel. Kolkata Knight Riders celebrated the occasion by cutting a cake and rejoice their jailbreak moment.

It is a renowned fact about players in the KKR camp to celebrate victories by putting cakes all over their heroes of the match but on this occasion, no one dared to put any on their volatile captain.
