MysuruKPL 2015: Match 5 – Mangalore United defeat Mysuru Warriors to opening their account: Mysuru Warriors’ wait to open their points tally continues as the defending champions of KPL 2015 lost in their 2nd game as well against the Mangalore United at Hubli. Mangalore United, who also lost their first game on day 1, came out as the better team to defeat Mysuru Warriors by 39 runs.

Chasing 192, Mysuru Warriors lost Manish Pandey in the first over itself. Bharath Prasad, who played a brilliant cameo with the bat earlier, claimed the wicket of Pandey, who gave a simple catch to mid-on. However, it brought Manjesh Reddy who joined Arjun Hoysala at the crease. The two batsmen, who were the top performers with bat in previous game for Mysuru Warriors. They continued their form by striking some brilliant strokes. Especially, Arjun Hoysala looked in top notch with some delightful hitting. He struck hat-trick fours in 6th over bowled by Mitrakanth Yadav and finished the over with a six. He kept the pace of his going as Arjun brought up his fifty in just 30 deliveries.

While Arjun kept the crowd on his feet with some insane hitting, Manjesh anchored the innings. However, he had to go back to the pavilion retire hurt at end of 8th over on the score of 89/1 after he felt discomfort while running. The new batsmen coming in place of Manjesh failed desperately, as the Mysuru Warriors crumbled to 128 for 4 in 13 overs.

Mysuru Warriors’ hopes were still alive with Arjun striking big and Manjesh returning to the crease after some quick wickets. However the happiness didn’t last long for them as the 15th over completely turned the game towards Mangalore United. Manjesh Reddy was first to go after being trapped in front by Mitrakanth and on the next ball, Arjun Hoysala’s innings of 87 came to an end in a disappointing manner after he got run-out amid a misunderstanding. Arjun took just 51 balls for his 87, striking 10 fours and 2 sixes. On the next ball itself, Gowtham Krishnappa returned to the pavilion for a golden duck after being trapped infront by Mithrakanth.

Ronit More got the wickets of CM Gautam and DH Sunil Kumar in 17th over as the Mysuru Warriors were reeling at 147 for 9. Bharath Prasad finished off the formality by cleaning up David Mathias as Mangalore United opened their points tally with a 39 run victory.

Earlier, Mysuru Warriors’ captain Manish Pandey elected to field first after winning the toss and his side took the field with once change from their previous game as they replaced MB Darshan with DH Sunil Kumar. However, Warriors didn’t get a start, they would have expected as the Mangalore United openers Rohan Kadam and Karun Nair put on a fifty run stand for the opening wicket at quick pace. Rohan Kadam, who struck 3 fours for his 25 runs, gave an easy catch to Krishnappa Gowtham at cover of Gneshwar Naveen’s bowling. Kadam’s wicket brought an end to the 56 run opening stand, which came of just 41 balls.

Last season’s 2nd top run getter Shishir Bhavane gave good support to Karun Nair, who completed his fifty in 43 deliveries. When both the batsmen looked to take their side towards a huge total, Shantharaju ended the 54 run partnership. Karun Nair, who played a delightful innings by scoring 67 off 51 balls with help of 10 fours, holed out at long on where Jagadeesha Suchith took a simple catch. Soon in the next over, Arsdeep Singh Brar miscued a shot off bowling of Gneshwar Naveen, which went straight into hands of Arjun Hoysala at long-off. With a score of 132 for 3 at end of 17 overs, Mangalore United looked good enough to get 160-170, but a power packed last 3 overs produced 59 runs.

Bharath Prasad struck 2 sixes and a four in 18th over bowled by Sunil Kumar, which yielded 20 runs. Later, Bhavane struck 2 boundaries in the penultimate over bowled by Suchith, but the left arm spinner came back well to claim the set batsman. However, Bharath gave a brilliant finish to Mangalore as the hard hitting batsman added 25 runs towards the total in the last over by hitting 3 fours and a six. Bharath remained unbeaten on 46 which came in just 18 balls with help 4 fours and 3 sixes.
