What if nature has the last laugh? Well, people have alternatives to cope up the natural calamities. Karnataka Premier League (KPL) managements’ work towards the betterment of the league defying the odds becomes the new inspiration. The eighth season was in the doldrums but KPL honchos set it right in every way.

It was just a couple months ago that parts of the country had to face severe water crisis and now most of Southern India is underwaters. This year monsoon had an adverse effect on cricket. KPL which is supposed to kick-off in Hubli on August 16, won’t happen there. As an alternative, the KPL management has shifted the first two days to M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.

Keeping the setbacks behind, the honchos of the KPL are all set to start the eighth edition of the league. But, what was left behind was their hard work. The first two days, Hubli was supposed to host the matches and inaugurate the season. But unfortunately, the rain gods haven’t shown any mercy as the ground which was all set to host the matches was underwaters.

The top brass of the league confirmed Bengaluru and Mysuru as new venues. To host event finance is involved and KPL also had to put in a lot of amount. “We had a commitment of Rs 70lakh for hosting the first two days of the event which involves promotion, ground development, infrastructure betterment and other miscellaneous works.”

“But, the works were half done and the floods hit the region. But after the management decided to shift the venues, the Hubli Tigers have worked their heart out to shift the base,” said KSCA official spokesperson, Vinay Mrutyunjay when in conversation with CricTracker.

Hubli Tigers’ management hark work went in vain

The more capital you put in an event, it gets as much vulnerable. Hubli Tigers have all beefed up ahead of the tournament but the downpour and the floods shattered their dreams. “Having put in all efforts, we felt disappointed as the rains hit the city. We promoted for this tournament with all enthusiasm and renewed energy in Hubli.

There was a lot of ground development happened and we put-up side screens for the better view only to see them soaked in rain. But, we are happy for the fact that the KPL management was not deterred due to this rains and made good plans to kick-off the tournament on the scheduled date,” said the owner of Hubli Tigers, Abhishek Jindal on a phone call.

Recently, all the teams picked up their captains and Hubli Tigers skipper is the most experienced, Vinay Kumar. “We are upbeat this season with a lot of young players on our side and the senior player at the helm. We are aiming to clinch the cup this season,” Jindal signed off.
