Krunal Pandya stopped at Mumbai airport for carrying undisclosed gold

Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Krunal Pandya is basking in joy after his franchise managed to defeat Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final of November 10 to lift the coveted T20 Trophy of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With this win, Mumbai became the second team to defend their title after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and is the only team to win the IPL Cup for a record 5 times.

Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya invited trouble for himself at the Mumbai International Airport. After wrapping up the IPL, Krunal and his wife Pankhuri Sharma took a flight for Mumbai from Dubai. However, it is learned that the elder Pandya has been stopped by the officials for the interrogation at the Mumbai airport that he was found carrying more gold and other valuables with him.

“Cricketer Krunal Pandya stopped by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at the Mumbai International Airport over suspicion of being in possession of undisclosed gold and other valuables, while returning from UAE: DRI sources” a news agency tweeted.

As per the rules laid out by the authorities, all male passengers coming to India from Dubai can wear up to 20 grams of gold that should not cost more than Rs 50,000 as a duty-free allowance. Also, a passenger can carry as much as gold as he wants if he declares about the same at the customs and pay the fixed import duty. The import duty on bringing gold to India is 12.5%.

Mumbai Indians’ players bag a lot of awards

Krunal had a decent outing with both bat and ball in the 2020 edition of the Indian league. The left-hander played some good cameos with the willow and collected 109 runs in 16 fixtures at a strike rate of 118.47. Pandya finished this season with 6 wickets under his belt in 16 games at an economy of 7.57 and average of 63.33. 2/26 were his best bowling figures in IPL 2020.

As far as Mumbai Indians is concerned, apart from winning the title for the fifth time, the players bagged a lot of awards at the IPL 2020 ceremony too. While Trent Boult was named as the Powerplayer of the tournament for taking 16 scalps, Kieron Pollard was adjudged as the Super-striker of the season as he had the highest strike rate of 191.42. The young and dynamic Ishan Kishan won the award for most sixes in IPL 2020 with 30 maximums under his belt.
