The test series between Sri Lanka and South Africa came to an end today. The hosts emerged as victorious as they whitewashed the Proteas 2-0. The visitors who were playing their first series since the retirement of star batsman AB De Villiers had a forgettable tour. Their record in the subcontinent hasn’t been any better too.

The Sri Lankan spin trio has been making the difference throughout the tour. If it were Dilruwan Perera and Akila Dananjaya in the second innings, veteran Rangana Herath displayed his valor in the fourth innings. Throughout the series, Sri Lanka dominated the South Africans in conditions favorable to spinners.

Former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara was extremely glad about the team performance. He lauded the confidence shown by the players on the field. Further, he felt that the hosts displayed their authority over the Proteas in a phenomenal way. He tweeted the same from his account.

Here’s what he tweeted

“Excellent again by @OfficialSLC. Playing well and with confidence. Dominated @OfficialCSA totally.”

Earlier, the Suranga Lakmal led team elected to bat first as they posted a total of 338 on the board. 9 wickets were picked by Keshav Maharaj who was surprisingly the lone spinner in the Proteas line-up. The South Africans, on the other hand, slumped from 70/3 to 124 all out. Their batsmen ran out of answers against the spinners.

The Sri Lankans didn’t enforce the follow-on as they declared their third innings after setting a target of 490. On a turning track at SSC, this was always going to be out of the visitor’s reach. Even though they faced a 199 run loss, they had some positives to take out from their final innings. Youngster Theunis de Bruyn went on to register a spectacular century.

The One Day International series is scheduled to begin on 29th July.
