Sri Lanka’s swashbuckling southpaw Kusal Perera is all set to miss the ODI and T20I series against India, which will commence from 10th December. According to various sources, Perera suffered a cut injury in his hand, after returning from the Bangladesh. This will be a big blow for the under-performing Lankan side, who already are struggling to cope with India’s brilliance.

After picking up a hamstring injury during the Champions Trophy 2017 in England, Perera didn’t feature in the national side again. Touted as the replica of the legendary Sanath Jayasuriya, it is indeed disheartening to see such a talented player miss out so many crucial games due to an injury. He recovered from the hamstring injury in November and also took part in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League.

He played two games for the Rangpur Riders, before picking up another injury and staying out of the squad. Beginning from 10th December, Sri Lanka will lock horns with India in a 3-match ODI series and as many T20 Internationals. India’s talismanic run-scorer Virat Kohli will be rested for these series and the very talented Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian contingent.

India dismantle the visitors on day 1 at Delhi

It was a forgettable first day at the Feroz Shah Kotla for the Islanders, who got dispatched to all parts of the ground. With the “Monk” Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli registering successive centuries, the Indian scoreboard kept running at a brisk pace. This helped the hosts register 371 runs for the loss of four wickets on day 1 and Kohli remained not out on 156, looking well set to score another double-century.

The Lankan bowlers got it all wrong on day 1. Skipper Chandimal was keen to restrict the run flow and pick wickets, but his bowlers let him down. He had some good ideas, but neither of them were executed well and eventually, India bludgeoned their bowlers to all parts. The only good thing that happened to them on the first day was Sandakan picking up two crucial wickets towards the end of the day.
