Young Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan is creating some serious ripples in world cricket. He has been in a sensational bowling form. In the last couple of months, he has dismissed the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and MS Dhoni. The big question is, can anyone tackle him? Well, Scotland skipper Kyle Coetzer believes he knows one person who can tackle Rashid Khan. He recently found himself engaged in a heated exchange with fans over the same opinion.

Kyle Coetzer, in his tweet, cited that the best way to tackle a spinner who has a very good wrong ‘un is by playing sweep against him. He reckons any player with a good sweep shot can succeed against someone like Rashid. To cite an example, he named Scotland cricketer Calum MacLeod as one such player. MacLeod had scored a brilliant 157 in a World Cup Qualifier game against Afghanistan earlier this year. He expressed his disappoinment over the fact that the franchises are not picking up players like MacLeod in their sides.

Here is what Kyle Coetzer wrote:

“@calummacleod640 scored 150 against this attack hitting Rashid at 8 an over (on a spin friendly wicket). Pretty much the only person in world cricket 2 do this to date. Few better sweepers of the ball in the world. Madness that franchises/teams don’t sign him up @CricketScotland,” Kyle Coetzer wrote in his tweet.

Fans misunderstand Coetzer

Some fans, as usual, failed to comprehend the point that the Scotland skipper was making. They came hard at Coetzer citing that even Mujeeb Rahman has hit a couple of fours to Rashid. Also, someone like Zaheer Khan had hit Brett Lee for sixes. They argued that this did not qualify for them to be successful batters against quality bowlers. Kyle Coetzer tried to make the fans understand yet again by rightly pointing out that scoring 150 in an ODI is indeed a big achievment.

“There is slight difference back to back 4’s by Mujeeb compared to a 150 not out. A 150 is not luck!!! I’m afraid you have no argument here @arifdost16. Captaincy Pressure is an overrated excuse, did @calummacleod640 not have pressure facing the #1 ranked bowler in the world??” Coetzer fittingly replied back.

His efforts of trying to make people understand went in vain. Some fans brought in country issues in the comments while others kept giving arguments which had no relation to the context. In any case, Coetzer did make a fine point. The big question is, are the teams and players listening? They should.

“one dimensional !?!?! Haha it makes it an even more sensational innings if Calum scored his runs if he was blind. To be clear the sweep shot is a method to play spin, a lot of players in the world wish they could play it as convincingly as Calum. Simply a great innings!!!” wrote Coetzer.
