The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has always kept its players reserved and not allowed them to feature in the other T20 leagues. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the only T20 tournament in which they play and of course earn much more money. But many cricket experts feel that the Indian cricketers should the leagues abroad in order to get the feel of the conditions. Even the former South Africa cricketer Lance Klusener feels the same and opined that the BCCI is missing a trick in this aspect.

Klusener has been appointed as Delhi‘s consultant for the limited-overs leg of the ongoing domestic season. It is just about a week that he has entered the dressing room and has kept himself busy in keenly observing the players and jotting down the notes in his diary.

Terming the IPL as a phenomenon while speaking to the Indian Express, Klusener pointed out how the other T20 leagues like Big Bash League (BBL) and T20 Blast have emerged over the years. He also felt that the young Indian domestic players should be allowed to play in such leagues and they will only benefit out of it.

BCCI is missing a trick here

I really think they are missing a trick by not allowing youngsters in India to travel and play in such tournaments. Because the exposure they are going to get there will be enormous. Just imagine, you have a youngster with the experience of playing in the Big Bash, and when he gets picked to represent India in Australia, neither the conditions nor those big grounds will be alien to him,” the 47-year-old quipped.

As far as his coaching stint is concerned, Klusener is loving his time in India. He has previously been the part of the coaching staff in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and Mumbai’s T20 league. “For me, coaching in India is the ultimate. One of the things I like about India is the amount of talent that’s on offer and response from the players is fantastic. That’s why I say this is the best cricketing nation,” he added.
