We all laughed when the car intruded: Rishabh Pant

Delhi’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant found it absolutely funny to see a car intruding in the ground in the Ranji Trophy fixture between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place on the penultimate day of the match when a car entered the ground and ended up being on the pitch. The match was halted for a brief while because of the interruption.

The car driver, who was later identified as Girish Sharma, mentioned that he had lost  his way and hence ended up driving to the ground. Also, he quoted that there were no security officials at the ground entrance and hence this confusion came to the fore. While it remains to be seen how the officials look into the matter, the players were certainly left in a false position.

Rishabh Pant, who was on the ground when the incident took place, said that there was nothing that the players could do about it. As per the quotes in Sportswallah, he said that players just laughed about the incident and then went ahead with the game.

“There was nothing we could do. We just laughed. The car just entered the stadium and the driver rolled it all across the ground. He also rolled over the pitch a few times. The police finally caught him,” quoted Rishabh Pant.

BCCI left puzzled

While the cricketers, including Rishabh Pant, saw the lighter side of the story, the BCCI is eyeing this as a serious security breach. BCCI acting chief CK Khanna has promised strict action against the same. Several big names were a part of the match, like Pant, Suresh Raina, Ishant Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir.

The car also rammed over the pitch a couple of times at the venue – the air force grounds in Palam. However, the match referee has deemed the pitch suitable for play on the final day. Match will resume at the scheduled time of 9:15.
