Laxman Sivaramakrishnan concerned with India's middle-order

The likes of MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik haven't performed to the potential in the limited opportunities.

Team India has looked the best team from the outset in the ongoing Asia Cup and it is no surprise that they were the first side to seal their place in the final. Bangladesh will challenge them on Friday and even they know that the Men in Blue are the overwhelming favourites to clinch the trophy for the seventh time in its history. While most of the runs have been scored by their top-order itself, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan believes India’s middle-order is still a worry going into the World Cup.

When India made a plethora of changes for the dead rubber against Afghanistan, it was the first time, when the middle-order was under the pump. They didn’t manage to take the team over the line despite the fact that the openers gave them a really good start. The match was eventually tied with Ravindra Jadeja getting out off the penultimate delivery of the last over.

India will put out their strongest XI

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has no doubt that India will put their best XI on the field for the final of the Asia Cup and felt that KL Rahul will be unlucky to miss out despite scoring a half-century. However, he was quick to point out the middle-order worries of the team who couldn’t win the game a couple of days ago.

“India will put out their strongest XI for the final after rightly resting five first-choice players for the game against Afghanistan. Ambati Rayudu did his cause no harm at all with a muscular half-century and KL Rahul oozed class on his return to the ODI side, but question marks continue over the middle-order. They were put under pressure for the first time in the tournament, and while they can point to two dodgy decisions, the fact that India failed to get over the line can’t be disputed,” he wrote in his column for the Times of India.

Even Bangladesh will be looking to scalp at least the first wicket early and expose the middle-order of the opposition which is undercooked. It will also be interesting to see the way they will approach the final knowing that India have the ability to run over them on any given day.
