The Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) has come in the firing range of the senior officials for showing negligence in the preparations for the domestic circuit matches this season. The ongoing Quaid-e-Azam trophy is packed with a hectic schedule this year. Apparently, the LCCA stadium has failed to cope up with the number of matches being played.

The stadium is located next to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. As per the recent reports in ESPNcricinfo, the ground failed to be fully ready for the round seven encounter between Lahore Whites and Karachi Whites. The blame game saw the negligence of the ground staff to emerge as the prime reason why the day’s play was called off without a ball being bowled.

Committee formed to look into the matter

The LCCA has now formed a committee, which is headed by former Test umpire Mian Aslam, to look into the pitch fiasco. The pitch was very damp due to which the play was not possible on the day. While the LCCA ground failed to see a ball being bowled on the day, the neighboring Gaddafi Stadium saw 59 overs of cricket being played between Lahore Blues and Islamabad on the same day before bad light stopped play.

This is not the first instance of the pitch being criticized. Earlier, Misbah-ul-Haq had expressed his dissatisfaction over the quality of the pitch at the venue in the fourth round of the tournament.

“I think it is seriously negligent to allow this state of affairs with the premier first-class tournament of the country. I visited the ground in the later hours of the day and was surprised to see the match being called off due to wet conditions. The venue has been idle since October 24, and yet they are not able to prepare it on time. I am getting a lot of information at this stage which I cannot reveal, but what I can say at this stage is that it’s a serious blunder and someone has to take responsibility for it,” Mian Aslam quoted.
