'Let's hope such accidents don't happen again' - Indian cricketers after Sujith Wilson passes away in borewell

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh showed sympathy over the passing away of Sujith Wilson, a two-year-old boy, in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirappalli. He had slipped into the abandoned borewell on Friday evening and since then, efforts were being made to take him out. After this irreparable tragedy, the Indian cricketing fraternity expressed their grief on social media.

A rescue operation was launched in order to bring out Sujith Wilson which went on for four days. However, it was called off after a stinking smell started coming out of the borewell. The officials supervising the operation then confirmed Sujith’s death.

After retrieving the dead body in the early hours of Tuesday, it was sent for the postmortem. Then J Radhakrishnan, Principal Secretary in the Transport Department and the Relief Commissioner told reporters that Sujith’s body has been decomposed. The team tried its best to rescue him on time but the foul smell from the tunnel forced them to stop their activity.

“The 2-year-old boy’s body is now in a decomposed state. We tried our best to rescue him but unfortunately, foul smell has started coming from the borewell in which the child had fallen. The digging process has been stopped,” J Radhakrishnan, Principal Secretary said as quoted by NDTV.

After the news of Sujith Wilson’s death broke through, Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “#RIPSujith really sad morning. Let’s hope such accidents don’t happen again.” Harbhajan Singh, the veteran spinner also expressed his sympathy in his tweet that was written in Tamil.

Another cricketer Washington Sundar also expressed his grief over such mishappening in his tweet, saying: “Deeply saddened to hear the loss of Sujith. May God give his family all the strength. #RIPSujith.” Later, Chennai Super Kings, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, also took to their Twitter handle and wrote, “May we never let such tragedies occur again. EVER. #SorrySujith #RIPSujith.”
