Rahul Dravid was not considered an apt player for One Day format due to his technique based game and inability to hit big shots. But he chose the biggest stage possible in the 1999 ICC World Cup to change that image in one go. Rahul Dravid scored the most runs in the World Cup and hit 2 back to back centuries. He scored 104* against Kenya in Bristol and hit 145 against Sri Lanka in Taunton. His innings were overshadowed by Sachin Tendulkar’s 140 after he returned from his father’s funeral and Sourav Ganguly’s record breaking 183 against Sri Lanka. Dravid shared a record 318 run partnerships. India only managed to reach the super six stage in the 1999 World Cup, bowing out of the tournament after a defeat to New Zealand in the Super Six stage.
