Win Prediction
Afghanistan (AFG) will face Hong Kong (HK) in the first match of the Asia Cup 2025 on Tuesday, September 9, at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Afghanistan has won three out of five T20I games against Hong Kong. This will be the first time both teams will face each other in the Asia Cup since 2016.
Afghanistan has been one of the strongest Asian teams in T20 cricket in recent years. They reached the semi-finals of the last T20 World Cup, beating big teams like New Zealand, Australia, and Bangladesh. At present, they are ranked ninth in the ICC rankings and even defeated Pakistan in a recent tri-series that also included the UAE. Since last year’s T20 World Cup, Afghanistan has played eight T20I matches and won five of them, with victories against Zimbabwe, Pakistan, and the UAE.
Hong Kong, meanwhile, is still searching for their first win in the Asia Cup after four appearances. They booked their spot in this edition by finishing third in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup. In 2025 alone, Hong Kong has played 16 T20I matches and won eight. They also competed in the Asia Pacific Cricket Champions Trophy in July, where they finished as runners-up after losing the final to Malaysia.
