The 31-year-old from Pune had been knocking the doors of Indian cricket for a number of years. He had had a few opportunities in the squad before and he did come up with decent returns. In the ODI series against New Zealand, he showed his skills with the ball when he became a trusted 6th bowler for Dhoni right through the series.

But the ODI series against England could well be the turning point of his career as he showcased his class with the bat, what he is primarily known for. In the first ODI at Pune, he played the match-winning knock of 120 runs off just 76 balls that enabled India to chase down a massive score of 350. India were in trouble at 63/4 as the top order had collapsed. But alongside Kohli, he put up a partnership of 200 runs that scripted a historic win for India.

In the next game, he came in during the slog overs and played selfless innings of 22 runs off 10 balls. But in the last match at Kolkata, he played one of the best ODI innings by an Indian. Chasing 321 to win, India were down at 173/5 when Dhoni was dismissed. Jadhav kept going strong and kept the hopes alive despite the rising required rate. Though he failed to win the game, his knock of 90 runs suggested that a finisher had taken birth in the ODIs for India.
