Australia beat West Indies in the second match of the tri-series by six wickets. West Indies were bowled out for 116 after being put into bat by the Australian skipper Steve Smith. David Warner with his unbeaten 55, took his side home with a comfortable 6-wicket win.

Windies skipper Jason Holder said it was the batsmen, who let the team down with the lack of partnerships. “We didn’t bat well and there was no excuses. We didn’t put enough runs on the board. We lost wickets in clusters and we were not to build any partnerships.”

“Seven soft dismissals and we need to spend some time in the wicket. I don’t think the bowlers can be faulted,” he added. This is the third lowest total West Indies have registered at home and also their lowest total against Australia on their home soil.

Smith was happy with the team’s performance but feels that it would have been nice to win it clinically, which was not, as they have lost three wickets in the span of 8 runs towards the end of the match. “It would have been nice to keep it clinical. To get over the line with a bonus point, it is still pretty pleasing. Hopefully, we can keep building. The spinners were magnificent today.”

Aussie skipper said that the spinners will be itching to play against South Africa in this pitch again, where there is a lot of assistance for the spinners and said that it would be a ‘battle of spinners’. “It may be the same surface against SA and they are licking their lips. Warner was calm and composed and got the team over the line. South Africa will be a challenge and I daresay it will be a battle of spinners, they will also play two spinners,” he concluded.
