Pakistan captain Babar Azam stepped up for his side on the fourth day of the ongoing Test match in Karachi against Australia. He came out to bat when they were struggling at 21/2 chasing a mammoth target of 506 runs and then stitched an unbeaten 171-run partnership for the third wicket with Abdullah Shafique. While Babar is unbeaten on 102, Shafique has shown admirable patience for his 71-run knock so far.
The home side ended the day at 192/2 and still need 314 runs to create history. Babar Azam realizes that the job is still not done and is of the opinion that Pakistan will have to continue batting the same way on the final day. He also urged the other batters to step up if the team has to win or draw the Test match.
“This knock means a lot to me, the team needed it. Fortunately I have managed to get a good partnership with Shafique. The match is not over yet, so we need to continue playing in the same way, and the other batters also need to step up,” Babar Azam said while speaking to host broadcaster after the end of day’s play.
Babar reveals how they tackled reverse swing
Pakistan were undone by reverse swing in the first innings of the Test with Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins troubling them to a lot of extent. However, the batters put up an improved show in their second essay and Babar Azam revealed what changed from the first innings for them in tackling the reverse swing.
“After the first innings, we practiced in the nets how to counter their reverse swing, just that we need to play slightly late,” the Pakistan skipper added. Meanwhile, the Karachi Test is set up for an intriguing finish on the final day. Australia will have to work hard to pick the remaining eight wickets and they would be hoping for the pitch to help them.
