A youth from Mathura passed away in the early hours of 1st April. The tragic accident, however, has been blamed on the fact that the doctors in the hospital were more interested in watching the World T20 semifinal clash between India and the West Indies.

The patient was said to have been critically injured and was not attended to by the doctors in the hospital as they were watching Virat Kohli dazzle under the lights of the Wankhede Stadium. The family members of the deceased refused to hand over the body to the police for post-mortem.

An FIR was registered on a complaint by the youth’s father said, “Sonu and Monu, residents of Mant Mula area, were attacked by Raees and his four accomplices near Ravi hospital on Thursday. While Monu managed to flee, Sonu received serious injuries. He was then rushed to the district hospital by passersby.”

It was alleged that Sonu, the patient, was attended to for the first-aid administration after which the paramedics failed to attend to him. Since they were busy watching the T20 match, the paramedics handed Sonu some pain killers before he passed away on Friday morning.

Garg said, “Action against Dr. Dharmveer, Dr. Sushil and Nurse Poonam Sharma has been recommended to Principal Secretary Health.”

Despite the heroics of Virat Kohli, the Indians failed to defend their score of 192 on a flat Wankhede wicket. Kohli smashed 89 and remained unbeaten en route to their score of 192. However, some massive hitting from Lendl Simmons ensured that the Windies had safe passage through to the final.

This infamous yet unfortunate incident has underlined the fact that the game of cricket is considered a higher priority than a person’s life.
