The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) recently amended a few laws in the game of cricket. The new changes made to the Laws of Cricket is all set to come into full effect across the globe, in all the three formats, at all levels of the game, on this Sunday (October 1). There have been some significant changes made to the laws which is expected to make the game of cricket more exciting and interesting for the fans.

These changes are reportedly the biggest change made in almost two decades. The last time MCC had made changes in the laws was back in the year 2000. In all, there have been 6 instances of the Laws of Cricket being written or amended. The first instance when these laws were drawn was in the year 1788. Since then, the five other instances when it was amended have been in the years 1835, 1947, 1980, 2000, and 2017.

Changes already been incorporated

The changes were first incorporated in two of the ongoing Tests. The match between South and Bangladesh, and the one between Pakistan and Sri Lanka saw the new rules come into the picture. Among the significant changes made, the one that has caught the attention of many has been about the players send off – this, in essence, means a player can be red carded, just like in a football game, for his misconduct.

Talking about the new laws, President of MCC Matthew Fleming said, “Promoting the Spirit of Cricket and conveying the ‘Play Hard, Play Fair’ message at all levels of the game is a global focus for MCC and has been for many years.”

“The new Code of Laws officially recognises what is expected from players, right through from the park to the Test Match arena. It is a big step in MCC’s quest and a landmark for the game,” he added further as per the quotes in AniNews.
