The Mumbai Indians will be locking horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 56 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on May 9. MI’s tournament is over for this season and all they will be hoping is to salvage pride by winning their remaining fixtures. They will be heading into this clash, having won their last two encounters against the Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans respectively.

The Kolkata Knight Riders, on the the hand, have been inconsistent this season. While they did beat Rajasthan after suffering five consecutive losses, the two-time champions faced a bitter 75-run defeat at the hands of Lucknow Super Giants in their last encounter. With six defeats in the last seven games, KKR find themselves on the brink of elimination and all they can do right now is win the rest of their league matches.

However, KKR can take heart from the fact that they had got the better of Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the reverse fixture last month courtesy of a whirlwind 15-ball 56 from Pat Cummins. But, MI’s clinical performances in the last couple of games mean that Kolkata should underestimate them at their own peril.

Pitch and conditions

The DY Patil surface has been helpful to both the batters and bowlers alike, especially the pacers who have found more success as compared to the spinners. The humidity levels are expected to go up since it is an evening game and dew factor could come into play as the contest progresses. Therefore, the captain winning the toss would want to bowl first.

Playing combinations for MI vs KKR

The Mumbai Indians have been making a lot of changes this season but to no avail as they became the first team to be knocked out from IPL 2022. Nonetheless, the last two games have gone their way with the inclusion of Tim David and Kumar Kartikeya.

With their playoff hopes diminishing quickly, Kolkata Knight Riders have no choice but to make some much-needed changes.
