Michael Clarke lauds the efforts of MS Dhoni after recent performances against Lanka

Former Australian World Cup winning captain and popular commentator Michael Clarke has recently showered praises for former Indian captain MS Dhoni after his back to back match saving knocks against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. Clarke also applauded the Indian team for their clinical performances in both formats of the game.

Prior to the start of the Sri Lankan series, former Indian captain MS Dhoni would have have been under pressure to retain his place in the side and prove a point or two to the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad who made some bold comments on the axing of the greatest finisher of ODI cricket.

But things turned around quickly for the modern great of limited overs cricket as he saved India twice from defeat with his contribution down the order in the 2nd and 3rd ODI at Pallekele. The celebrated Indian batting line up had no answer to the googlies of rookie Akila Dhananjaya in both the games.

In the second game of the series, Akila single-handedly reduced India from 109-0 to 131-7 with the help of his six wicket haul in the eight over spell. MS Dhoni shepherded Bhuvneshwar Kumar who played the innings of his life to seal the deal for India with their 100-run partnership.

The third ODI was threatening to be an action replay of the previous ODI as Dhananjaya picked up the wickets of Rahul and Jadhav in quick succession. However, MS Dhoni came in and forged a match winning partnership with Rohit Sharma and helped India clinch the series by taking an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the series.

Michael Clarke took notice of the recent performances from the modern great of the game and took to Twitter to appreciate the efforts of the veteran. “India playing some outstanding cricket in both forms against Sri Lanka @msdhoni has been on fire,” tweeted Clarke.
