Former Australian Test captain Michael Clarke has requested both India and Australia to move on from the Decision Review System controversy like gentlemen of the game. Clarke wants the two teams to carry on playing like true sportsmen maintaining the spirit of the game.

Aussie skipper Steve Smith was caught on the pads by a Umesh Yadav delivery on the score of 28. Smith first looked at the non-striker but controversy erupted when Smith turned his head towards the dressing room in order to consult on the fact that whether to go for a review or not. Umpire Nigel Llong quickly spotted the matter and prevented Smith from doing so. The unusual action from Smith also forced Virat Kohli to get involved into the matter with the two captains having a heated exchange of words.

Smith tried to avoid much controversy stating that it was a ‘brain fade’ in his post match conference while Kohli said he spotted the Australians looking for an answer from the bench. The Indian skipper also did not agree with Smith terming it as a brain fade as he said that the Australians needed help from the dressing room before.

However, the 35-year-old Clarke thinks that now its time to move on leaving the matter behind.

“I want India and Australia to butt heads in the field and play hard cricket. I am saying let’s just play the game in the right spirit,” Clarke told India Today.

“I think there’s no doubt all eyes will be on Steve Smith in the next Test match. Probably the first time the spotlight has been on him individually.

“Smith needs to use people like David Warner and Darren Lehmann if he needs to seek support. It’s the first time Smith has had to face criticism like this from the Indian media.

“As an Australian captain, this is Steve Smith’s time to stand up. He must be thinking right now, “I am going to be a double hundred in Ranchi.”
