It is a well-renowned fact that two of the greatest West Indians ever produced, Brian Lara and Sky Sports analyst/commentator Michael Holding do not get along. Lara previously questioned the un-sportsman like conduct of the West Indian back in the 80s. Holding retaliated by claiming that he has never been interested in the opinions of Brian Lara.

Holding was involved in an infamous incident during the series against New Zealand in 1980, where Holding kicked the stumps in frustration. During the MCC lecture, Lara spoke about he was “embarrassed” by the unsportsmanlike conduct of the West Indies in the 80s and 90s.

To which, the ‘whispering death’ hit back claiming,”I am not interested in whatever Brian Lara says. Never was, never will be,” when enquired by PTI. Holding also accused the legendary batsman of “getting away with murder” during his reign.

“Michael Holding decided he was no longer a cricketer, he was a footballer and he kicked a stump. I am sure the occurrences during that period had a big effect on cricket,” said Brian Lara at the event.

Holding on the much-hyped comparison between Kohli and Tendulkar

The popular commentator then shared his views on the much-hyped comparison between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. “There is a long long way to go (before he gets close to Tendulkar’s record) but he is certainly a great batsman,” added the 63-year old.

He concluded by stating even though the current Indian team are the top ranked team in Test cricket, the real test would start when they start winning in English, South African and Australian conditions. Indians have only played against weaker opponents abroad or at home in the past few seasons.

“I don’t know. They have to do it to prove it. The proof of the cake is in the eating. So we will just have to wait and see what they do (outside the sub-continent). You can’t predict these things,” ended Holding.
