The third edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is currently taking place with eight teams fighting to lift the championships. Out of them, VB Kanchi Veerans and Chepauk Super Gillies are winless in the event and have strained to find their feet. During the tournament, a number of talented cricketers have come to the fore, RS Mokit Hariharan is one of them.

He made his T20 debut in the last year’s TNPL, however, he came to the limelight when he scored 77 runs from 50 balls against Dindigul Dragons this season. While batting first, the Veerans were reeling at 27/4 in 5.5 overs after which Mokit came into his own and bashed the bowlers to ignominy. He also built an unbeaten 139-run stand with P Francis Rokins to lift his team to 166 runs in 50 overs.

I would like to watch his development

Albeit his knock couldn’t take his team home, it attracted significant appreciations. In the same match, he bowled both right and left-hander and emerged as an ambidextrous spinner. Recently, Michael Hussey, who is currently a part of the commentary team in the event, heaped praises on the all-rounder and also mentioned him as his favourite player from the league.

“He is a bowler who can use both his hands effectively and I would like to watch his development in the next few years,” Hussey was quoted in an interaction with the students at the Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology grounds on Friday.

Hussey, who previously played for the Chennai Super Kings under the leadership of MS Dhoni, lauded the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman for the approach he employs on the cricket pitch. The former Australia batsman also mentioned playing alongside Dhoni as a privilege.

“He is a natural leader who treats everybody nicely and that prompts us to play well for him. He also handles pressure situation well. He would come around and tap on the players’ shoulder and tell them not to worry much. I consider myself lucky and blessed to have played with him,” he added.
