The Australian cricket team is going through a tough patch. They were recently humiliated at home by the touring Indian side. With their back being against the wall, one would expect the selectors and management to be putting their best foot forward. While they believe they are doing so, former English skipper Michael Vaughan reckons that the selectors missed the trick big time against team India.
Michael Vaughan took to Twitter to express his disbelief at the omission of an in-form batter from the ODI setup who is none other than D’Arcy Short. Short has been in a prolific form in the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League. He is currently the leading run-getter in the season. To add to the stat, he was the leading run-getter in the tournament last season as well.
He has accumulated over 1000 runs in the BBL over the last two seasons. Playing for the Hobart Hurricanes, his most recent exploits include an unbeaten 73 against the Adelaide Strikers, unbeaten 96 against the Melbourne Stars, and a 64 against the Sydney Sixers.
“How does Darcy Short not get in the Aussie One day Team ????? #Bonkers,” Michael Vaughan wrote in his recent tweet after watching Short bat in the BBL this season.

Not all hopes lost
While Short averages around 60 in the ongoing BBL season, his run in the Australian outfit was not too fruitful. He played 4 ODIs for his country and averaged around 28, which saw him miss out on a position in the series against India. Despite this, he is still optimistic of making a return to the ODI setup, and eventually, find a place in the Australian squad for the all-important World Cup 2019 as well.
“Runs count in any format. It definitely helps your cause if you want to be in the World Cup. All I can do is keep scoring runs, and hopefully, I can get back into (the ODI squad). I’ve always wanted to be in a World Cup. It’s a dream of mine, and I’ll keep working towards being in that World Cup side,” D’Arcy Short had quoted recently.
