Former England skipper Michael Vaughan watched as Chris Gayle decimated the side he once skippered. The sight of witnessing Gayle just smash the ball to all parts of the Wankhede Stadium only reinforced one thing as far as Michael Vaughan is concerned. The West Indies are more than capable of replicating their heroics of 2012 in this edition of the World T20.

Vaughan pointed out that West Indies have depth in their batting and the presence of four all rounders in the side adds to the balance.

“But if you look at their squad, eight of them are regular IPL players; they’ve got a huge amount of power all the way down and bit of mystery about them as well.”

Apart from this, the Windies also have a decent spin attack, with the likes of Samuel Badree and Sulieman Benn. Ashley Nurse is also on the fringes of the side.

“They’ve got a good leg spinner in Samuel Badree, Sulieman Benn as left arm, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy, Jason Holder, then you’ve got the Gayle force [Chris Gayle] at the top of the order and Marlon Samuels as well,” he said.

Vaughan also stressed that the Windies seem to become an extremely cohesive unit when they play T20s.

“They’ve got some real quality in that team and they look to me that on any given day they could have a run and they’ve won it before”.

“They seem to get life when they play T20, it’s like their bread and butter at the minute. The Tests are going in a different fashion and they are having all sorts of fallouts with the administrators but as soon as they play T20, they have a bit of life,” Vaughan pointed out.

“If it’s not India (favourites and hosts), then I’ve got a funny feeling the West Indies might do it.”
