Jos Buttler has recently entered a purple patch with runs hemorrhaging from his willow. In England’s recently concluded ODI versus Australia, he notched 275 runs from 5 matches at a titanic average of 137.50. The wicketkeeper-batsman was crowned as the Player of the Series, which didn’t spring a surprise courtesy of his superlative display of temperament on the cricket pitch.

His most prolific knock of the series came in the final match at the Old Trafford in Manchester. On Sunday, he churned out a masterclass of 110 runs from 122 balls. Most importantly, he pulled the Brits out of a precarious position when they were staring down the barrel with the score reading 114/8 in 29.4 overs, most importantly with only a couple of wickets in hand.

“Opposition are scared of him”- Vaughan on Buttler

The World Cup in England and Wales is a year away and Buttler has more or less cemented his place as the first choice keeper. Meanwhile, Michael Vaughan, the former English cricketer, termed his as the Poms’ X-factor going into the most prestigious 50-over tournament.

“I look at the England side and Buttler is the one. Teams that win trophies have X-factor cricketers. He’s right up there. I’ve got everything crossed that he doesn’t pick up an injury. If he’s fit next year, they’ve got the best chance they have ever had,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

Vaughan also praised him for the composure during crunch moments and succumbing to the pressure. “What he provides to the team is that calmness. Whenever he is out there in the middle, he reads the game better than most. He knows and the team know that the opposition are scared of him more than most,” he remarked.

“Forget the 481 at Trent Bridge and the other hammerings – this game is one England will take more from. For them to get over the line today – in a real close game after Australia were favourites – this means more,” he added while highlighting the last win as a more useful one than their record-breaking spree at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
