The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made it loud and clear that Misbah-ul-Haq will continue to lead Pakistan if he decides to play on. PCB chairman, Shaharyar Khan, recently met Misbah and other top officials of the team management to discuss the same. The board has a stiff stance on the 42-year-old cricketer. They believe that if Misbah continues to play Test cricket for the national side, then he is the ideal man to continue in his captaincy role.

Apparently, Misbah has asked for sometime to decide about his future in international cricket. “I met with Misbah in Dubai and had a long talk with him. He asked to be given 10 to 15 days time to ponder over his future plans and we think he should also weigh in all pros and cons before deciding on his retirement,” Shaharyar Khan quoted.

He further added that Misbah has been leading the Test team since 2010. His record as the leader of the national side has been phenomenal. Statistically, he is the most successful Pakistani Test skipper. Shaharyar remarked that in case Misbah decided to retire, then the management would prefer having one captain across all the three formats of the game.

“Misbah has been captain since 2010 and he has done a great job for Pakistan cricket. If he wants to play on he will continue in his present role. If Misbah is not available than we would prefer to have one captain for all formats,” he added.

Clearly, his remarks have made it clear that the board is keen on appointing one skipper for all the three formats. Wicket keeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed is most likely to be named the captain if anything of this sort happens in the near future. Sarfraz has been leading Pakistan in T20Is and the ODI skipper Azhar Ali had recently stepped down from his post.
